Cowboys game
When we arrived, my team had already scored 14 points (go Cowboys!!!). Plus, there was a good crowd out to watch the game. Half of the people in the bar hated the Cowboys and the other half loved the team...there was no middle ground...it made for a lively viewing. And what a game! It was just as lively as the Thanksgiving game. And with 2:18 minutes remaing, Barber scored a touchdown and the game ended in victory for the Cowboys!
The next game for the Dallas will be on Christmas day against Philadelphia. I can't wait!
The ISS and Shuttle Sighting
We first spotted the ISS passing above us. A few minutes later, between two mountain ranges the space shuttle rose and quickly flew across the sky. You could see the shuttle for two minutes. I know it's hard to believe, but the only thing you could make out was a bright light moving quickly across the sky.
If you want to see when you can sight the ISS or Shuttle, click here.

Pagan
When we first walked into our new home, she hid in the laundry room. Once she made it out of the laundry room, she hid under the bed for several days. Now she is fully acquainted to the new apartment. She makes every effort to take all of your attention and get lots of lovin.'

My New Home
Saturday after Thanksgiving we packed up the SUV and headed home to NM. When we walked in the door, I found myself looking at tons of balloons. Buzz had pink and white balloons taped to the banster. As I walked upstairs and turned the corner, I saw more balloons in the kitchen that spelled "Welcome Home." Buzz also had vases of white daisies, my favorite flower, all over the apartment. He had done all of that before coming home for Thanksgiving. He did a great job of welcoming me home.

Cold Weather
We live in the middle of no where surrounded by the mountains. For the most part, the mountains protect us from the weather. The wind blows the storms from one mountain range to the next. The other day we had rain and very light snow flurries. At some of the higher elevations around us, the mountains are covered with snow and ice.
Texas on the other hand, has experienced ice and heavy snow. Yesterday, the entire city closed and everyone headed home before the roads were covered with black ice.
Go figure! When I move away, then they get snow!
Black Friday
We were up before 4 o'clock ready to hit the stores. Buzz, Melanie and I headed out to hit Kohl's, Target, Staples, the mall, and the outlet mall. We were at Kohl's just as they opened with Mom and our neighbors. We finished Kohl's quickly and stopped at Micky Dee's for breaksfast...we had just enough time to grab breakfast before Target opened.
Onced we finished with stores, we all headed back to the house for nap time!
All in all, Buzz and I were able to get quite a bit of Christmas shopping done.
My Birthday!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dinner was wonderful. We had turkey (thanks goes to Buzz and Melanie for the wonderful presentation of the turkey and dressing!), cranberries, cranberry pudding (this dish was new this year and absolutley wonderful), steamed grean beans, grean bean casserole, yams and marshmellows (Melanie's favorite), rolls, and several more dishes that I have since forgotten.
Only one dish didn't make it to the table. Last year, Buzz and I spend Thanksgiving with his family. They had a corn casserole that was to die for. At Christmas time, I made the dish for my family and they also loved it. However, since I was in process of moving, the recipe was in a box somewhere. My mom checked online and found a similar recipe, or so we thought. After 45 minutes in the oven, the dish resembled a soup, not a casserole. We left it in the oven a bit longer in hopes that all the liquid would evaporate and we could eat it later. The liquid did evaporate, but the dish turned into a brick. Needless to say, there was no corn casserole. For Christmas, we will be sure to get the recipe from my mother-in-law.
Thanksgiving afternoon was spent watching football (is there anything else that a person does?). This year I actively watched the entire game. 'Actively' is the key word. I have spent years watching football, but never really paying attention to the game. Sine meeting Buzz, I have tried my best to learn the game of football (since he loves the game). I have to say that I am doing very well. And the Cowboys are doing great! Dad is hoping for another Super Bowl appearence.

A Trip Up North
My parents had flown up to Ohio early that week to visit family friends and enjoy their fall break. Friday, Buzz and I arrived. For dinner we joined my folks and Buzz's folks at a local BBQ restaurant. Buzz and I had shared pictures of our honeymoon and we all enjoyed celebrating the first week of our marriage.
Saturday morning, we gathered my folks, Buzz's sister, his two nephews, and his Mom and headed to Tall Stacks, A Celebration of the Steamboating Era. Every four years the river is filled with river boats, music, and arts and crafts. We started by walking over the Purple People Eater Bridge. As you walk over the bridge, you get a bird’s eye view of all of the steamboats. After our adventure on the purple bridge, we ate lunch at a local sea food restaurant (which was really good).
That evening was another reception to celebrate our marriage. Buzz's family has lived in Cincy since Buzz was a baby so the entire Township came (or at least it felt that way)...his youth leaders came, his college friends were there, and all of parent's friends showed up (which included some of his grade school teachers). It was a lot of fun!
This was a football themed reception. We had 2 cakes, one was decorated as the Bengal’s football field, and the second was a football. Everyone wore their favorite team jersey or t-shirt (Mom and Dad were the only ones not supporting the Bengals...Go Cowboys!!!).

The Honeymoon!
So what did we do…not much! Two days before the wedding I came down with a bad cold! Each night of the honeymoon, I went to bed at 9 and slept until 8 or 9 in the morning (nothing like 12 hours of sleep!). Despite getting 12 hours of sleep each night, every afternoon I would go return to the hotel for a nap. Poor Buzz didn't know what to do with himself. Needless to say, he caught up on the local news, TV and got in a few extra workouts (I think he was in the gym twice a day).
When I wasn't sleeping, we went museums, the Alamo, the mall, an English pub and 2 Irish pubs, a few Mexican restaurants, a Dueling Piano Bar, and the Mercado (Mexican Market). My favorite outing was the Dueling Piano Bar… 2 guys playing the piano (or various instruments) to songs requested by the audience. And we had a good audience…everyone would sing the songs. It was a blast.

I'm married!
Well, it's going on four weeks of wedded bliss and I am finally getting around to posting wedding news!
So here's the wedding details...When Buzz and I began to plan the wedding, we wanted to do a destination wedding. We planned on having just immediate family there. That plan didn't work. My entire extended family wanted to come to the wedding and I have a big extended family (of which, Buzz finally got to meet at the wedding). The location we had picked for the destination wedding was not going to acomodate the wedding and all of its guests. We decided to move the wedding home. All of my extended family would be able to come. Plus Buzz's Mom had never been down here or seen his house.
Even though the wedding was moved home, I still wanted a small wedding. The day of the wedding was split into 2 events...the wedding and the reception, or better known as the after party. Since I still wanted a smallish wedding, we had the wedding at 4 with just family. The party afterwards was opened to all of our friends and to make it lots of fun we decided to do a theme reception.
But first the ceremony...We held the ceremony and reception at a B&B. The B&B had the main house and another small house in the back yard called the Carriage House. The original plan was to have the ceremony outdoors on the back porch of the main house. I would get ready upstairs in the Carriage House. When the ceremony began, I would come out of the Carriage House and walk down the stairs into the backyard. Buzz would meet me at the bottom of the steps and together we would walk to the back porch of the main house.
Well, that didn't exactly happen. It was hot on September 30! At the beginning of the week it was suppose to be in the low 80s, but by Saturday it was in the 90s. Once we arrived at the B&B, we decided to move the ceremony indoors. The back room of the B&B is a large sun room that overlooks the backyard. We were able to squeeze all of the wedding guests into the air conditioned sun room!
To begin the ceremony, I had a family friend sing "Have you ever been in love" by Celine Dion. When Mom and I sat down to pick out the music, I told her that I wanted to begin the ceremony with a popular love song. Since I didn't have one in mind, we gathered all of our CDs and started listening to each one. When we came to one of Celine Dion's CD's and this song played, we knew it was the right one. The song descibes love being heaven sent which exactly describes our relationship.
Once the Celion Dion song ended, the processional began. First, my sister and the best man (Dr. Rod Evil of course!) walked to the front of the room. As Buzz and I walked through the backyard instead of stopping at the porch, we walked into the house and to the front of the sunroom.
Dad and a dear family friend performed the ceremony. Dad began the ceremony (crying I might add!!! which, of course, made me cry). Dad was great...he did the intro and said something special about the 2 of us. Half way through the ceremony Ryan and a family friend sung "The Prayer." It was magnificent. And even though I am partial, I am not exaggerating when I say that Ryan sounded just like Josh Groban (he has a great voice; he just doesn't sing often). After the song, my dear family friend Dareld completed the ceremony. He has known my family since Dad was just a baby; he and his wife have been like grandparents to me. Needless to say with Dad and him speaking, the ceremony lasted 40 minutes!
After the ceremony was over and pictures taken, guests began to arrive for the themed reception. We wanted our wedding reception to feel like a party so we hosted a Masquerade Ball. The backdrop was the Victorian Style B&B. The caterer did a gorgeous spread in the formal dining room and decorated the entire table with Halloween decorations. Our cake (the moistest wedding cake I had ever tasted, plus death by chocolate experience) was decorated with Venician Masks in gold and purple. It was really neat!
So many of the guests really joined in the festivities and brought their own mask! It was fun!
Once the night came to an end, Buzz and I headed up to our room. That night we and several of our close friends stayed at the B&B. The next morning, the inn keeper made a wonderful sit down breakfast for all of us.
The day really turned out perfect!

My cat
The same girlfriend is moving in December. Though she would love to take both of her cats with her, she felt better only taking one. Since Pagan and I have bonded, I decided to become her new momma.
I have to say that it is nice to have a pet again. Plus, it will very nice to have Pagan around when I move. Though I will have a husband for some company, during most of the day it will be me and Pagan at the apartment. Things won't seem as quite with a little furry hair ball for company. (And if you didn't know, I am currently quitting my job and moving to another state.)

Summer Fun
Now wasps aren't my friend. A while back I was stung by one. That was not a good evening. By the end of the next day I could not move my arm. The infection was so bad you could cook eggs on my arm. So a trip to the emergency room was made...it was the weekend and I was out in East Texas (there weren't any Care Nows where I was). I don't like wasps.
Back to my story, I decide not to lock my door and walked away. I figured that no will even try to get into my apartment with a wasp guarding the door.
To my luck one of my neighbors was out in the hall. After I threw the trash down the garbage drop, I walked over to her door. She had wasp spray!
And it worked like a charm. As I stood some 10 feet from my door, the spray took the wasp down and killed it on contact! Victory! Victory! Victory at last! (As a side note, any one know what that opera is from?)

Fortune of the Day
My little story behind the fortune cookie...For the longest time I've wanted to try this Chinese restaurant down the street from me. Finally, I decided to go. Last week my girlfriend and I stopped there on the way home from work. We have now found a great new restaurant.
Yesterday, since I had no desire to prepare food, we ended up there again. The food was just as good as the first time we went. For those of you curious as to what I ate, fried rice with fresh vegetables and tofu (yes, I am one of those weird people who loves tofu).

Etiquette
It's bad enough that people talk on their cell phone while in the bathroom. "What I can't hear you? Everyone decided to flush their toilet at the same time!"
But now the courtesy flush has been ignored. You are standing in front of a mirror touching up your makeup or poofing your hair (I'm sure all the guys out there can relate). And then all of a sudden you are bombarded with air that is unbearable. You run from the bathroom hoping that you can hold your breath long enough. But it’s too late! Your lungs have already breathed in the contaminated air!
Are parents not teaching their children anything? Flush the toilet immediately after you use it! This is not a difficult concept!

Closed
Last night a girlfriend and I had a craving for Mexican food. We decided to go to a great little place just down the street from where we live. It was closed! We were suprised, but decided that someone in the owner's family had passed away so they closed the for the day. Well, they weren't the only ones closed. So was the next Mexican restaurant we went to.
It was all very pecular until I checked the news today. Mexican resturants weren't the only restaurants that closed due to staff shortages. Even some McDonalds and Chipotle had to close.

In Training
A new Chili's is opening near work. The other day my coworker and I decided to go try this new Chili's. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a rather odd little man. He greats us with hello and then charges into his speech. If we are not opposed to a smaller menu, a wait staff that is "in training", and a longer wait time for our food, we are welcome to proceed. Oh, and the best part, lunch will be on Chili's. Well, of course we are going to proceed. So my food takes five minutes longer to arrive, it's still good food (if for no other reason than the fact that it is free).
So what have we all learned? Always stop when you see the words "In Training" in front of a restaurant.

A few possible vows...
Bride: I promise to learn to cook something other than baked beans on toast, not to hog the bathroom and use all the hot water, and never to ask, 'does my bum look big in this?' and expect an honest answer.
Bride: I promise to care for you in sickness and in health, unless it is self-inflicted and two o'clock in the morning, not to hit you too hard when you are snoring, to let you in after a night out with the lads and to care for your prized collection of beer mats.
And for the Groom...
Groom: I promise to put the top on the toothpaste, my dirty washing in
the washing basket and not to clean my football boots on the kitchen
table. Oh, and to love you always.
Groom: I vow to understand you when I don't, to admit that I am in the
wrong when I mistakenly think I am in the right, and to bring you
flowers at least once a week as I am bound to have done something that I
should apologise for.
You have to admit that those were funny. :)

Sunshine!
And to celebrate the return of the sun, a girlfriend and I went to the park. There is a nature preserve not far from me that we both love to go to. It's a great place to spend the day. After lunch yesterday we headed out for a nice long walk in the great outdoors.
One thing stuck out in my mind from yesterday. While we were at the park, we saw a man riding a unicycle. We passed him once and then later - as we stopped and sat on a ledge - watched him ride his one-wheel-bike on the path below us. I know that I've seen a person ride a unicycle before, but I can't say that I've seen a man practice riding one all afternoon. Just to give the man proper credit, he was doing superb job.

Sad news
She was also the entrepreneur of our family. She had a thriving upholstery / curtain business for many years. Over the past few months as I've started my own business, her own strength has inspired and encouraged me.
Farewell, Grandma. May that same strength and courage that defined your personality be with you now.

The first meal
As a side note, does anyone else like sweet potatoes? Why do ask such a question? Let me explain. When I cook, I usually cook for at least 6 people. And yes, I do realize that I live alone. But there is a big plus side in having leftovers. I now have five prepared meals for the week.
Most of my leftovers are brought to work and eaten at lunch time. Once before I brought my sweet potato logs to work. My coworker had actually given me the recipe. She had never used the recipe but just knew it would make for a great side dish. As I was eating in her office one day, she decided to try the logs. There is one thing she had forgotten to mention. She hates sweet potatoes. However, she was just sure that if sweet potatoes were cooked like french fries that she would love them. She still hates sweet potatoes.
This event led to a group discussion about sweet potatoes. It appears that I am alone in my love for sweet potatoes.
So I pose the question, does anyone else like sweet potatoes?

Christmas Day
A few family updates...
The funeral was held in East Texas in small town where my grandfather (affectionately known as Papa when he was alive) and my grandmother had retired some 20 years earlier. A few interesting notes...the news of grandma's funeral made the local radio station - only in a small town does the local radio station still update the town about the events in the locals’ lives. Also to note was how wonderful the town was the day of Grandma's funeral. As we drove out to her grave site, the entire town stopped. Every car pulled to the side of the road. Any person working outside stopped as we drove by and took off his hat.
Well, fast forward to today. My great-grandmother (my Dad's grandmother) has just been moved to a nursing home. She just turned 94 in December. And until this month, she has lived in a small apartment and been able to care for herself. In late December, she had her gallbladder removed. Unfortunately, she has not recovered from the surgery. And now due to congestive heart failure, she has been moved to a nursing home so that she can be properly cared for.
My other grandmother (my Mom's mom) was also just moved into a nursing home. Last week, my Mom received a phone call from her father. Grandma was not doing well. When Mom arrived at their home, it was decided that Grandma needed to be taken to the hospital. Grandma has severe rheumatoid arthritis. According to most of her doctors, she should have died 15 years ago. Well, at this point, only medical personal can take care of her. On Sunday, she was moved to a nursing home to live out the remainder of her days.
The Apartment
My brother stopped by the apartment Monday night. While he was here, he walked back to my bathroom to use it. Shortly after he walks back, I hear clapping from the living room. I look around the corner and there comes Ryan. "How do you turn your bathroom light on? Is a clapper light?" The clapping was Ryan trying to turn on my bathroom light.
The bathroom light is actually in not in the bathroom. It is in the hallway. Yeah, I know, kinda different.

Mouse thrown in fire gets revenge
My favorite holiday pic!
Hello out there!
For now, I will start with current news.
I have found an apartment on the other side of town and will be moving this weekend. The apartment is about 20 minutes from my current residence. I'll be living on the fourth floor, BUT there is an elevator. Let's face it, who in their right mind would move to a fourth floor apartment without an elevator. The apartment is a loft. My living room blends right into my bedroom. And yes, that is what I wanted. For you women out there, my main color will be purple, my favorite color. Also, I will have a wonderful balcony that I can enjoy planting ivy and flowers. I am very excited about the balcony.
Right now, my room is filled with the smell of cardboard boxes. It is amazing how much one person can accumulate. Just a few months ago I did a "spring cleaning" and did my best to purge unused items. I am sure that as I unpack in my new place I will be doing another "spring cleaning." I'll be shocked at how much "trash" I moved.
Well, everyone, wish me luck! It is going to be a very long Martin Luther King weekend!
