Home made bread

This afternoon my neighbor walked over with home made bread.

"Do you like home made bread? I made a loaf this morning and thought that you might like some."

Does anyone not like home made bread? Seriously, now!

I met her the other day while she cleaning her porch. We chatted that afternoon and promised to talk over coffee soon. Well, today we got that chance and had a great afternoon!

And the home bread was GOOD!

And as a side note, Pagan actually came out to meet our neighbor. The cat who never greats new people, just loved our neighbor!

The Last Cowboy's Game

For Christmas, Buzz got his first Cowboy's football sweatshirt. He will wear it everytime the Cowboys are in the playoffs or go to the Superbowl. And since the Cowboys made it to the playoff games this year, Buzz got to wear his new sweatshirt.

And of course I wore my Cowboy's sweatshirt too.

A casserole for dinner

Buzz made his first casserole dinner. It was really good. This was a recipe that his Mom used to make when he was a kid.

3 c. cooked chicken
1 pkg. long grain and wild rice (use the quick cooking type)
1 can cream of celery soup
1 jar chopped pimento
2 c. French style green beans, drained
1 c. mayonnaise
1 can water chestnuts, chopped and drained
salt and pepper
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. curry powder
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Prepare rice as directed on package. Mix with other ingredients except the cheese. Pour into a greased 9" x 13" pan. Top with cheese. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool 10 minutes before serving. It also makes great leftovers and freezes well.

The Museum

We also went to two Museums while in Ohio with Mom and Buzz's sister's family. We saw the historical museum and the Children's museum.

When you enter the historical museum, you are walking into a replica of downtown. I can't imagine how long it took to build! You see the downtown in its hay day. You also get to see the baseball field, the zoo and the botanical gardens - and everything is done in miniatures. Half way through the display you get to walk through a life size historical town. You see several stores and on the river is a large boat that you get to board. At the end of the exhibit is a huge display of toy trains, the special exhibit which is put up every Christmas. One of the toy trains is set up with a camera so you get a close up of the little town. There is also a bigger train for the kids to ride.

Once we finished looking at all of the toy trains, we headed up stairs for lunch. And then, energized with our food, we headed to the Children's Museum.

The Children's museum has four giant play areas, a make believe town, a small water park, a park full of balls, and a giant "outdoor" play ground (it's located inside). We adults sat on the benches while the kids went to town. Though they liked each area, they most enjoyed the water park the most. In the water park they were able to build bridges and dams (and get wet).

After we finished with the museums, Buzz’s mom took us downtown. We walked around the square for a bit, but quickly found our way into a building. It was too cold to be walking outside! We went into the Westin and found a small cafĂ© where we were able to warm up with hot chocolate.

The Conservatory

While we were in Ohio, we went to the Conservatory, home to plants from all over the world. We went last year and I wanted to go again this year; it's just beautiful inside. There are four different areas that you get to explore, the Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses. The first room you walk into also has a 20 foot waterfall.

When you park and walk around to the front of the building, you see a live manager...live meaning real animals present. And let me tell you, it smells like a zoo with all the animals. Buzz used to go see the manager when he was a small child.

And here are a few pictures inside. FYI, we got a new digital camera this year and it does really nice up close pictures.

Aren't the leaves on that tree interesting?

For the holidays, one of the rooms becomes the Chrismas room. When you first walk into the room, you are greeted with Christmas trees made of poinsettas. In the middle of the room is a huge music box. The music box is a replica of the town...the detail and accuracy is amazing.

Christmas in Ohio

Right after breakfast Christmas morning, my parents drove Buzz and I to the airport. We caught an early afternoon flight to Ohio. By late afternoon we had arrived at the folk’s house. We were greeted by Grandmother, Mom and Dad, and Buzz's sister and her family. Christmas evening was spent opening gifts and eating. The tree was overflowing with gifts and Buzz had the task of handing out all of them. The gifts that received the most excitement were the lava lamps, kitty slippers, and a huge Lego set (that the boys were able to build in 1 1/2 days!). And the dinner spread was awesome, as was the huge selection of pies. For dessert we had a chocolate pie, apple pie, and pumpkin pie. It took us all week to eat all the pies.

Christmas with my folks

Buzz and I drove to my parent's house a day before Christmas Eve. My family celebrates Christmas on the evening of December 24th. Last year Buzz and I missed Christmas Eve celebrations, so this year we wanted to make sure that we were there.

Thursday night Dad drove the family to his favorite steak restaurant about an hour away. A friend of his had found the restaurant a couple of years ago. Ever since Dad's first visit, he had wanted to bring the entire family. I was the only one who did not order a steak...I ordered the fish. The food was excellent.

After dinner, we decided to look at Christmas lights. In town, a house had decided to copy the Cincinnati home that timed their lights to songs by the TSB. They did a great job. The owner of the home had rigged the lights on a bet. His father in law had sent him an email with the link of the Cincinnati home with a message that said, "I bet you can't do this." Well, he did it. It was very neat to see.

Christmas Eve was full of activity. The morning was spent doing last minute errands and cooking. That afternoon long-time family friends came to the house for a family gift exchange. Later in the afternoon we went to the candle light service at the church I grew up in and Ryan now works. After the service we went home and sang karaoke (Dad's family gift to us all) until 10:30.

A few songs that made it into the karaoke singing were...Mom and I singing "The Wind Beneath My Wings"; everyone singing "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"; Melanie, her roommate and I sang "Earl's Gotta Die."

On Christmas morning Mom cooked a big breakfast for us all. Early that afternoon Buzz and I headed to Cincinnati to spend the rest of Christmas with his family.

The Christmas Party

This year for the office Christmas party, Buzz and one of his co-workers decided to be the entertainment. Buzz set out to rewrite song lyrics and write a couple of his own songs. All the songs were some how related to work or life surrounding work. The office party was held at a restaurant that also had a karaoke set up. So we were able to record all of his songs!

My favorite song was Green Chilies. No matter what restaurant or bar you go to in town, they have Green Chili Stew. Buzz will eat it; since I don't like really spicy food, I won't touch the stuff. If you are going to have the stew, most likely you will end up at the local Pub which is most famous for their Green Chili Stew. Of course, Buzz had to write a song about their famous stew. Anyway, the song goes something like this...

I always heard that the stew was top shelf,
So I went to the pub to find out for myself.
Birdie supplied and I tried it, my friend.
I never will eat Green Chile again.

I learned a hard lesson in that small mountain town.
Billie and Wheels can both shovel it down.
One super sized bowl just about did me in.
I never will eat Green Chile again.

Chorus:
I never will eat Green Chile again.
My colon is crying, my stomach's done in.
I'll put out the fire with a tonic and gin.
I never will eat Green Chili again.

When I have a few pitchers of the local beer,
My memory forsakes me, my hunger is clear.
Alone in the plaza, I order the stew.
Alone the next morning, it's running right through.

Chorus

In the fetal position with drool on our chins,
We broke down and ate them Green Chilies, again.

Buzz playing on stage.

I'm recording the music.

A Few Wedding Pictures

I am finally posting wedding pictures! Here are a few of the pictures from the ceremony...
