In March I started my garden by planting this year's seeds. Everything was started in containers indoors. This summer we'll have tomatoes, peppers, jalapenos, basil, cilantro, and summer squash.
A few changes were made to this year's garden. I picked up a book called Square Foot Gardening. Based on the recommendations of the book, Buzz built a box that holds the garden. We also added more soil, a great blend for our vegetables. On top of the box is a grid that outlines each square foot. I know exactly how many plants can be put inside each square foot. Also, so far there are no weeds!
Last year, our garden supplied us with tons of veggies for homemade salsa. With the addition of a few new vegetables to our garden and another tomato plant, I am hoping to be able to make even more salsa and can it too.
This month we decided to try making our own pizzas. I found a recipe online for the dough that only takes 15 minutes and it's delicious. I know a few of you have asked for the recipe...here it is:
1 Tbsp. active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F.)
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 1/2 cups flour (I split the flour between wheat and all-purpose)
Dissolve the yeast in the water. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix. Dump onto a floured surface. Knead into a smooth dough (five minutes or so). Roll out and press down onto a greased pizza pan. Add toppings. Bake at 450 degrees F. for around 12-15 minutes until the crust looks crispy and lightly browned. By the way, you can make up a double or triple batch of the pizza crust dough and freeze the extras if you don't need it.
Also in March we got the chance to see several of my friends. One of my college girlfriends was getting married, so Buzz finally got the chance to meet some of my college buddies. Also, we did a get together with several of my friends from my old church group. Buzz had heard me mention their names several time and now he has finally met them.
