Miscellaneous Baby Stuff

Boy, the time is just flyin' by! We are now in month eight, and heading for the home stretch. As a result, we have been busily trying to complete our preparations for Baby-Baby. We have (mostly) cleared out the baby's bedroom, built some furniture, and are even getting some decorations ready. Check out the flurry of activity, "check-it-out"-ers!

The Super-Awesome Spectacular Baby Shower!

With the impending arrival of Baby-Baby, we just had our baby shower hosted by my Mom, sister, and future sister-in-law with lots of help from my Aunts. The decorations, food, games, and gifts were all wonderful. Everything was kept a secret from me so that I would be surprised.

The baby's room will be decorated in bright green and blue. Our inspiration came from Kermit the Frog...Buzz's favorite Muppet. Everywhere we looked there was green and blue. Also, baby's nickname "Baby-Baby" was on the cake and even on the napkins!

All of my Aunts were able to attend the shower and several of my cousins too. I also got to see several good friends from church, past job, and school. Everyone enjoyed visiting before we jumped into the games. At the end, I enjoyed opening up gifts. Even Buzz got a gift...The Muppets Christmas Letters DVD!

Welcome, Baby-Baby!

Outdoor Kitty Update

For those of you following the adventures of "our" outdoor kitties, here is the latest:

Apparently, our as-yet unplanted garden is the perfect spot for outdoor kitty naps. Our hope is this behavior is not repeated once tasty veggies are populating the squares...but for now, it's just so CUTE!

Mom's Excellent Adventure

An exciting time at the end of March - Buzz's Mom came to visit! She had planned to come out and spend her Spring Break with us, but with the coming of Baby-Baby, it had an extra special dimension. Since she had never been to San Antonio, Buzz took his Mom for a quick trip to see the Riverwalk and the Alamo. While the hotel service left something to be desired, the trip was a lot of fun. It's the first time Mom had ever seen the Alamo, and like her son, was stunned by how big it really was. On the trip back, they stopped at the Czech Stop in West, Texas for some world-famous Kolaches. Overall, it was a wonderful little trip.

One of the lesser known facts? Ducks thrive on the Riverwalk!

The end of Mom's spring break this year coincided with Easter, so we got to spend an enjoyable day with family, plus coloring Easter eggs! This year, we decided to season the roast before setting it up to slow-cook. The night before, we added cumin, garlic, salt, pepper...and a secret ingredient (which is code for "Buzz has already forgotten what else we used"), let it marinate in a bag, seared it in an iron skillet, and then added carrots, potatoes, celery and red wine to let it simmer until we were ready for Easter dinner. The best part? Buzz had to get up at 1:30 AM to start the cooking process. It turned out very well - everyone was pleased. The eggs were fun to dye, but for whatever reason - humidity, cold eggs, cheap dye kit, interplanetary misalignment - the colors started running as they were drying. Oh, well, we had fun, and Buzz had many days of tasty egg snacks!

Or is THIS the joy...?

Unfortunately, the trip had to come to an end - Mom left for Ohio on Monday. We will miss her, but we look forward to many more visits to see the grandbaby!

Farewell - see you after the baby arrives!
