Well, the first blast of winter has hit us in New Mexico. And, believe it or not, we have experience milder weather than Texas.
We live in the middle of no where surrounded by the mountains. For the most part, the mountains protect us from the weather. The wind blows the storms from one mountain range to the next. The other day we had rain and very light snow flurries. At some of the higher elevations around us, the mountains are covered with snow and ice.
Texas on the other hand, has experienced ice and heavy snow. Yesterday, the entire city closed and everyone headed home before the roads were covered with black ice.
Go figure! When I move away, then they get snow!

Black Friday
Yes, we were amoung those who were up at ungodly hours Friday morning to shop! Thanksgiving day Buzz picked up 2 newspapers for us. After dinner, we sat down and went through every add, clipped coupons, and planned our attack. That evening our neighbors came over to check out the ads and see where they might join us.
We were up before 4 o'clock ready to hit the stores. Buzz, Melanie and I headed out to hit Kohl's, Target, Staples, the mall, and the outlet mall. We were at Kohl's just as they opened with Mom and our neighbors. We finished Kohl's quickly and stopped at Micky Dee's for breaksfast...we had just enough time to grab breakfast before Target opened.
Onced we finished with stores, we all headed back to the house for nap time!
All in all, Buzz and I were able to get quite a bit of Christmas shopping done.

My Birthday!
This year we celebrated my birthday early. Buzz had worked with my Mom to get a birthday bash together Thanksgiving evening. After the Cowboy game, out came a birthday cake and gifts.

For Thanksgiving, Buzz and I spent the day with my family. We drove over Thanksgiving day. During the morning, Buzz and Dad watched the pre-football shows while us girls worked on dinner. Mom had done quite a bit of prep work so there were only a few dishes left to make.
Dinner was wonderful. We had turkey (thanks goes to Buzz and Melanie for the wonderful presentation of the turkey and dressing!), cranberries, cranberry pudding (this dish was new this year and absolutley wonderful), steamed grean beans, grean bean casserole, yams and marshmellows (Melanie's favorite), rolls, and several more dishes that I have since forgotten.
Only one dish didn't make it to the table. Last year, Buzz and I spend Thanksgiving with his family. They had a corn casserole that was to die for. At Christmas time, I made the dish for my family and they also loved it. However, since I was in process of moving, the recipe was in a box somewhere. My mom checked online and found a similar recipe, or so we thought. After 45 minutes in the oven, the dish resembled a soup, not a casserole. We left it in the oven a bit longer in hopes that all the liquid would evaporate and we could eat it later. The liquid did evaporate, but the dish turned into a brick. Needless to say, there was no corn casserole. For Christmas, we will be sure to get the recipe from my mother-in-law.
Thanksgiving afternoon was spent watching football (is there anything else that a person does?). This year I actively watched the entire game. 'Actively' is the key word. I have spent years watching football, but never really paying attention to the game. Sine meeting Buzz, I have tried my best to learn the game of football (since he loves the game). I have to say that I am doing very well. And the Cowboys are doing great! Dad is hoping for another Super Bowl appearence.
